President of the Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández, was in his office the Ambassador of the European Union, Irene Horejs, and Secretary of State NAO European Fund for Development, Dr. Domingo Jimenez.
During his visit the Chief of the diplomatic and responsible for managing the grant funding provided by the EU Fernandez explained the decision by the European Commission to have a competitive fund for the sum of 1000 million for African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP).
These resources are aimed at improving the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in relation to Maternal and Child health in ACP countries marked by poverty.

Both officials are studying the visiting President at the request of Commissioner Development of the European Union, Andris Piebalgs, who asked the ambassador to send it directly to the Chief of the decision by the European Commission to cooperate with maternal health and reducing maternal and infant mortality. ; The decision to cooperate with these issues arose from the United Nations Summit in September 2010, and in which it became clear the existing arrears in meeting the goal for this line.
Jimenez also presented the president said that the need for CARIFORUM within a unit that is believed to contribute to a better advantage of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA, an acronym in English) for the benefit of the member countries of the Caribbean integration scheme and thus can meet the commitments set out in agreement.
